I had always wanted to write a novel about the inside workings of a deaf residential school and its community in a small town, so I thought writing a fiction serial based in Lansel, an imaginary town in upstate New York, would be fun. I began writing Lansel for the now-defunct Tactile Mind Weekly e-zine back in 2001, so I've decided to continue the saga for the Handtype Press Weekly E-zine.

Alan Worx, a good-looking deaf counselor in his late 30s, at the Lansel School for the Deaf, is dealing with the mysterious yet alluring Angela Marstone, the woman who threatens to destroy his life, as he tries to establish a new life as a divorced man in a new town. Of course, it doesn't help that other people are as equally interested in him for different reasons . . . Oh yeah, a few murders and affairs happen along the way, but isn't that how life works sometimes?

Here's more of who's who in Lansel:

Ruth Berbas, a divorced deaf mother of two full-grown children.
Julie Worx, Alan's ex-wife and an elementary teacher.
Robert Biggles, the football coach at Lansel School for the Deaf
Dale Burton, Alan's best friend and a computer technician at the school.
Mickey Bunz, the renowned deaf chef at Hotel Prater.
Detective Markins, a hearing police investigator who seems to be entangled in murder cases while chasing Angela ... but why?
Joan Spinst, a deaf attorney with her own practice in downtown Lansel.
Howard Stafney, the superintendent at the Lansel School for the Deaf
